Essential Elements
Week 10: 5/26-5/29
It's our last week of music class! Since we can't have an in-person talent show our last week of school, we'll do a virtual one instead. Here's how it works:
On the sharing board, you can also see the talents of your schoolmates! We have so much talent in our school and I am so excited to see all of your talents.
One final thing! We are going to have an unusual summer this year...I will continue to add things to my website as I discover new fun ideas for you to do over the summer if you want to continue making music. I've already added some new pages to our fun links site, but more will be added as they are discovered, so check it out!
- First, decide on a talent. Since this is a music class, your talent needs to have something music-related. You could sing a song, play an instrument, write your own song, complete a jump rope song or game, make an instrument, do a dance, make a short movie, do a magic show, or any other talent as long as there is music!
- Profanity, bullying, or other inappropriate music/behavior is not allowed.
- Record a video, sound file, or take a picture of your talent. The great thing about a virtual talent show is that you can have as many chances as you need to try again until you get it right!
- Finally, upload it to The Sharing Board at https://padlet.com/aprilceleste/9t28clwzdm37 Long videos may have to upload to YouTube first. Please let me know if you have any questions or other issues. If you are nervous about sharing it on the Padlet but still want to participate, send it to me at [email protected]. I'd love to see it!

Week 9: 5/18-5/22
This week, we are going on a musical scavenger hunt! I want you to go for a walk outside or look around your house and see if you can find all the music around us! You can watch the video to get some ideas. When you find the items, draw or take a picture of your favorite and upload it to our padlet: https://padlet.com/aprilceleste/9t28clwzdm37

Next week, we are going to have a virtual talent show! So think about what talents you would like to share and keep practicing! More details to come soon.
Week 8: 5/11-5/15
This week you get a choice! Pick an activity or two that you can complete at home. I've put all the grades choice boards up here, so choose your own grade, or feel free to choose from another grade, too. Upload your pictures or videos to our padlet! https://padlet.com/aprilceleste/9t28clwzdm37
When you are finished, check out one or more of the links on our fun link page!

Week 7: 5/5-5/8
It's a new month! That means it is time for a new Musician of the Month! Our new musician is John Williams. Click on the button below for a Nearpod lesson to learn all about him and the kind of music he is famous for! The code is SUWBC.
Week 6: 4/27-5/1
This week, we will listen to our favorite music! I want to know what your favorite song is! Then, you get to ask someone what their 3 favorite songs are (this is a great chance to connect with family and friends outside of your home). Then, I want you to listen to all 3 songs. You can often find links on YouTube or other sites if you do not have access to the songs. After you listen to all 3 songs, come back here and fill out the form and tell me about the songs. I am excited to hear back from you! And as a bonus, I've put my favorite songs down below for you to sample!

Week 5: 4/20-24
Have you ever thought about making your own instrument? Did you know you can make an instrument with items you have around the house? Today, make your own instrument with items you have at home. My personal favorites are the spoon castanets, box guitar, and kitchen xylophone.
You can watch the video and create one of the ideas you see, or come up with your own!

Week 4: 4/13-17
Music has lots of opposites! Fast/slow, high/low, loud/soft. Practice your musical opposites with this game!
Week 3: 4/6-4/10
We have a new Musician of the Month! Our new musician this month is Weird Al Yankovic. You can learn about him in the nearpod lesson on the button below. While you listen the songs, I want you to listen for the beat and pat the beat on your lap. When you hear the parody, I want you to clap the rhythm.
When you are finished with the Nearpod lesson, I want you to find your own parody and the song that it goes to!
If you need help, email me at [email protected]. I would love to see what you came up with! My virtual office hours are 1-2 pm, but I will also check throughout the day.

Week 2: 3/30-4/3
Music offers us so many opportunities to be creative and get moving!
The song “An Austrian Went Yodeling” is an old folk song. There are many different versions that have been passed down by people singing it with others. As the song is passed down, parts of it are changed.
