Kindergarten
Week 10: 5/26-5/29
It's our last week of music class! Since we can't have an in-person talent show our last week of school, we'll do a virtual one instead. Here's how it works:
On the sharing board, you can also see the talents of your schoolmates! We have so much talent in our school and I am so excited to see all of your talents.
One final thing! We are going to have an unusual summer this year...I will continue to add things to my website as I discover new fun ideas for you to do over the summer if you want to continue making music. I've already added some new pages to our fun links site, but more will be added as they are discovered, so check it out!
- First, decide on a talent. Since this is a music class, your talent needs to have something music-related. You could sing a song, play an instrument, write your own song, complete a jump rope song or game, make an instrument, do a dance, make a short movie, do a magic show, or any other talent as long as there is music!
- Profanity, bullying, or other inappropriate music/behavior is not allowed.
- Record a video, sound file, or take a picture of your talent. You can actually do this directly from the padlet (link below) to make it simple. The great thing about a virtual talent show is that you can have as many chances as you need until you get it right!
- Finally, upload it to The Sharing Board at https://padlet.com/aprilceleste/9t28clwzdm37 Long videos may have to record directly from the padlet or uploaded to YouTube first. Please let me know if you have any questions or other issues. If you are nervous about sharing it on the Padlet but still want to participate, send it to me at [email protected]. I'd love to see it!

Week 9: 5/18-5/22
This week, we are going on a musical scavenger hunt! I want you to go for a walk outside or look around your house and see if you can find all the music around us! You can watch the video to get some ideas. When you find the items, draw or take a picture of your favorite and upload it to our padlet: https://padlet.com/aprilceleste/9t28clwzdm37

Next week, we are going to have a virtual talent show! So think about what talents you would like to share and keep practicing! More details to come soon.
Week 8: 5/11-5/15
This week you get a choice! Pick an activity or two that you can complete at home. I've added some videos that go with some of the activities in case you need help. Upload your pictures or videos to our padlet! https://padlet.com/aprilceleste/9t28clwzdm37
When you are finished, check out one or more of the links on our fun link page!

Week 7: 5/5-5/8
It's a new month! That means it is time for a new Musician of the Month! Our new musician is John Williams. Click on the button below for a Nearpod lesson to learn all about him and the kind of music he is famous for! The code is SUWBC.
Week 6: 4/27-5/1
This week, we will listen to our favorite music! I want to know what your favorite song is! Then, you get to ask someone what their 3 favorite songs are (this is a great chance to connect with family and friends outside of your home). Then, I want you to listen to all 3 songs. You can often find links on YouTube or other sites if you do not have access to the songs. After you listen to all 3 songs, come back here and fill out the form and tell me about the songs. I am excited to hear back from you! And as a bonus, I've put my favorite songs down below for you to sample!

Week 5: 4/20-24
This week, I want you to practice drawing quarter notes and eighth notes! I want you to make up a rhythm like in "Engine, Engine, Number Nine" using only quarter notes and eighth notes (you do not have to write any words unless you want to). Remember, the quarter notes are the long sounds, and the eighth notes are the short sounds. Try to include both kinds of notes in your rhythm, and have a total of 10-12 notes. You can draw it on your own paper, or use the picture below to help you. When you are finished, clap or pat the rhythm. Then, you can send it to me and I will send a video of the rhythm back to you on a surprise instrument so you can hear what it sounds like! Have a parent or older sibling help you upload a picture of your rhythm to our Highland Park Music Sharing Board: https://padlet.com/aprilceleste/9t28clwzdm37 or email it to me: [email protected]
Week 4: 4/13-17
We are going to review eighth notes and quarter notes this week! You are already so good at keeping a steady beat. Clap the first line with one clap for each word. Can you sing "Twinkle, Twinkle' while clapping the steady beat? I knew you could do it!
We are going to practice a chant while reviewing our quarter notes and eighth notes. This chant is called "Engine, Engine, Number 9"

Can you hear how the eighth notes are faster than the quarter notes? You are going to practice both kinds of notes with a video.
Clap along with the rhythms and see how well you do!

Week 3: 4/6-4/10
We have a new Musician of the Month! Our new musician this month is Weird Al Yankovic. You can learn about him in the nearpod lesson on the button below. When you listen the songs, I want you to listen for the beat and pat the beat on your lap.
When you are finished with the Nearpod lesson, you get to write your own parody! I want you to write a parody about something you have learned at school this year.
Some tips:
1. Pick a song that you know well! Songs like "Twinkle, Twinkle", "Down by the Bay", holiday songs, or your favorite movie song are great.
2. Decide what you will write about. This can be the hardest part. Some things you have been learning this year: letter sounds, spelling, rhyming, numbers, seasons, space, bugs, keeping a beat, fast and slow, different voices, and many more.
3. Try to think some words for your song and try to fit the words into the song.
4. You might have to try to write it more than one time. It took me 3 or 4 tries for my song!
5. Practice your song! You can do a whole song, or just a small part of one.
6. Parodies are supposed to be funny! The funnier, the better!
7. When you are done or if you need help, email me a video or recording of your song at [email protected] or upload it to the Sharing Board at https://padlet.com/aprilceleste/9t28clwzdm37. I would love to see what you came up with! My virtual office hours are 1-2 pm, but I will also check throughout the day.

This week's lesson is to listen and sing along to "Down by the Bay". Then, make up your own rhyme! I'd love to see what you come up with! Send them to me at [email protected]
